"A girl," the doctor announced with a warm smile, placing the swaddled infant into Elena’s arms.

Elena wept—not from sorrow, but from a profound, overwhelming lightness. She looked down at the tiny face, wide-eyed and innocent, unburdened by the legacy of greed.
