The Boardroom Purge

The high-rise boardroom of Sterling Enterprises was surrounded by glass that looked over the morning mist of Manhattan.
Julian arrived with dark circles under his eyes, his mother Victoria flanking him in an ostentatious power suit, attempting to maintain her usual air of aristocratic supremacy.
"Father is just being emotional," Victoria whispered harshly. "He will not throw away his only blood heir over a girl with no lineage."
The double doors swung open. Arthur Sterling entered, followed not by corporate lawyers, but by Elena.
She wore a tailored navy dress that accentuated her maternal grace, her dark hair pinned back elegantly, revealing high cheekbones and an expression of quiet, unshakable authority.
Julian gasped, taking half a step back. "Elena?"
"Take your seats," Arthur commanded, taking the head of the long conference table.
"Before we review the third-quarter dividends," Arthur began, his voice echoing across the silent room, "I am exercising my founder’s rights to revoke Julian Sterling’s executive authority and voting shares, effective immediately. All family trusts will be placed in a blind conservatorship dedicated to the welfare and future of Elena’s child."

Victoria slammed her manicured hands onto the table. "You cannot do this! Julian is a Sterling! She is nobody!"
"She is the only person in this family who understands honor," Arthur said quietly. "And unlike you, Victoria, she has built things with her own hands."
