Chapter 13 - The Final Confrontation

The luxury interior of the private jet was dimly lit by recessed LED strips that cast a sickly amber glow over the plush leather seating. Sitting in the center chair, looking pale and disheveled without his tailored tuxedo jacket, was Julian Montgomery. Clinging desperately to his lap, sobbing quietly into his chest, was Lily in her wet pink party dress.

When the cabin door banged open against the bulkhead, Julian looked up, his eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated terror as he saw Clara standing there, dripping wet, bleeding from her feet, and holding Arthur Vance’s service pistol with a steady, unflinching hand.

“Clara… darling, please. Put the gun down. This has all gotten completely out of hand,” Julian stammered, raising his hands slowly while keeping one arm locked tightly around a very confused and frightened Lily.

“Get away from her, Julian,” Clara said, her voice terrifyingly calm, carrying a weight that commanded total obedience.

Julian’s eyes darted toward Arthur, who stepped into the cabin right behind Clara, his own weapon leveled squarely at Julian’s chest.

“The game is over, Montgomery. The federal wire fraud charges are locked in, your offshore accounts have been seized by the Department of Justice, and your hitman friend in the treeline just surrendered to the state troopers who finally broke through the signal jammer,” Arthur stated smoothly, stepping forward to block any potential escape route.

Julian’s face twisted in desperate rage. He realized he had lost everything—his money, his freedom, his elaborate network of lies. In a sudden, psychotic movement, he grabbed a small, heavy crystal decanter from the side table and pressed the jagged glass edge directly against Lily’s cheek, drawing a tiny bead of bright red blood.

“If I'm going down, no one gets to keep anything! One move and I slice her face open!” Julian shrieked, his voice cracking into an insane, manic pitch.

Lily let out a sharp, terrified cry: “Mommy!”

Clara didn't scream. She didn't hesitate. Time seemed to slow down to an absolute crawl as she looked at her daughter’s tear-stained face, then down the sights of the Glock gripped firmly in her hands.
