Chapter 10 - Cornered in the Foliage

Principal Harrison stepped through the shattered doorway, his face purple with rage, his expensive suit jacket wrinkled from the chaotic pursuit. Behind him, Evelyn Vance materialized from the shadows of the pathway, her dark blue blazer sharp and immaculate, her expression a mask of cold, unmitigated fury.
“End of the line, Arthur,” Harrison snarled, gesturing for the guards to move in and encircle the potting bench where Clara stood protectively in front of her laptop. “Hand over the hardware right now, or you’re facing felony charges for industrial espionage and corporate sabotage.”
Arthur stepped in front of Clara, holding the heavy metal wrench defensively across his chest. “You’re too late, Harrison. The files are already in the hands of the federal oversight committee and the state board of education. The whole world is going to see what you and Evelyn have been doing.”
Evelyn’s cold facade slipped for a fraction of a second, a flicker of genuine terror crossing her features before she regained her composure. She stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the concrete floor.
“You naive fool,” Evelyn hissed, her voice dripping with venom. “Do you honestly believe a simple data upload is going to bring down decades of institutional backing? The board members are personal friends of my husband. By morning, those files will be flagged as malicious phishing attempts and scrubbed from the servers.”
“Not this time,” a clear, steady voice echoed from the entrance of the greenhouse.
Harrison and Evelyn spun around. Standing in the shattered doorway, illuminated by the flashing red lights of several approaching police cruisers outside, was Leo. Flanking him were half a dozen parents and several senior faculty members who had been quietly compiling their own grievances for months.
“The students recorded everything from the moment Mrs. Vance struck Clara’s desk,” Leo announced, holding up his own smartphone, which was actively broadcasting a live stream to a public social media archive with over fifty thousand concurrent viewers. “And the local news stations picked up the feed the second the proxy servers routed the packet.”
Principal Harrison’s face drained of all color. He looked from Leo to the flashing police lights outside, realizing with sinking horror that the narrative had completely slipped out of his control.
Evelyn Vance stared at the smartphone screen, her hands trembling slightly as she realized her career, her reputation, and her son’s fraudulent empire had just collapsed in real time.

Before anyone could say another word, the sharp wail of sirens filled the courtyard, and heavy footsteps approached the greenhouse from all sides.
