Chapter 3: Unspoken Bonds

The revelation hung in the air, heavy and profound. Ethan sank to one knee, bringing himself level with the boy. He reached out a hand, his fingers trembling slightly—a rare crack in his stoic facade.
Leo looked at his mother, who gave him a reassuring nod, then looked back at Ethan. The boy reached out and placed his tiny palm into Ethan’s massive hand.
"I knew it," Leo whispered, a small, triumphant smile breaking through his tear-stained face. "Mommy had a picture of you hidden in her lockbox. I saw it once. You look like the prince in my storybook."
Ethan choked back an emotion he hadn't felt in years. Kneeling there on the floor of his cold, opulent mansion, surrounded by broken glass and scattered flowers, he realized how hollow his life had been. He had spent years building an empire, guarding his heart against betrayal, only to find that the most precious thing in the world had been living under his roof, cleaning his floors, hiding in the shadows.
"I'm sorry," Ethan whispered, looking up at Sarah, his eyes shining with uncharacteristic emotion. "I'm so sorry I didn't know. I didn't look for you..."
"Eleanor made sure you couldn't," Sarah said quietly. "She threatened to put me in prison if I ever contacted you. She said a bastard child would ruin the Sterling family name. I took the job here six months ago through an agency, using my maiden name, just... just so Leo could see his father from afar. I never intended to tell you. I just wanted him to know who you were."
Ethan stood up, his posture shifting. The shock was replacing itself with a newfound sense of purpose. He wasn't just a CEO anymore; he was a father. And a father's first duty was to protect his family.
"You will never hide again," Ethan said firmly. "Neither of you."
He walked to the door and called for his chief of security, Marcus, a broad-shouldered man who had served with Ethan’s father in the military and remained fiercely loyal to Ethan.
"Sir?" Marcus said, appearing within seconds.
"Clear out the master suite in the east wing," Ethan ordered. "Sarah and Leo are moving in immediately. Double the security detail at the front gates. No one enters or leaves this property without my personal authorization—especially not Eleanor or anyone connected to her."
Marcus looked surprised for a fraction of a second, then caught the look in Ethan's eyes and the small boy holding his hand. A knowing smile touched the old soldier's lips. "Understood, boss. Right away."
Ethan turned back to Sarah and offered his arm. "Come. Let's get you both out of those clothes. Tonight, you sleep in a real bed."

Sarah hesitated, looking at her faded maid outfit. "Ethan, the staff... the press... what will people say?"
"Let them say whatever they want," Ethan replied, taking her hand gently. "This is our home now."
