Chapter 11: The Promise
Sarah looked at the velvet box in Ethan’s hand, her heart beating wildly against her ribs.
Ethan opened the box, revealing a simple, breathtaking ring featuring a rare hazel-colored diamond surrounded by a halo of tiny white stones.
"Ethan..." Sarah gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.
"Seven years ago, I let you slip away because I was too blind, too absorbed in my father's shadow to see what truly mattered," Ethan said, taking her hand gently. "I can't change the pain you suffered, Sarah. But I can spend the rest of my life making sure you and Leo never feel alone, unsafe, or unloved again."
He looked into her eyes, his expression vulnerable and completely sincere. "Will you marry me, Sarah? Will you build a real life with me?"
Tears of pure happiness welled in Sarah’s eyes. She didn't need to hesitate. She didn't need time to think. Through all the hardship, through all the years of hiding, her heart had always belonged to the man standing before her.
"Yes," Sarah whispered, her voice full of emotion. "Yes, Ethan. A thousand times yes."
Ethan slid the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, loving embrace, kissing her under the starlit sky. The shadows of the past were completely erased, replaced by the promise of a bright, shared future.
The next morning, Leo burst into his parents' room, jumping onto the king-sized bed with boundless energy.
"Mommy! Daddy! Look outside! It's snowing!" Leo squealed, pointing at the window.
Ethan wrapped his arms around Sarah and pulled Leo into the middle, hugging them both close.
"Hey buddy," Ethan said, showing Leo the ring on Sarah’s hand. "Guess what? Mommy said yes."
Leo looked at the shiny ring, then at his parents' glowing faces. "Does that mean Mommy gets to wear a white princess dress?"

"It certainly does," Sarah laughed, kissing her son's cheek.
"Yay!" Leo cheered, throwing his small arms around both of their necks. "We're a real family now!"
