Chapter 11 - The Server Lockdown

A sharp, shrill alarm tone suddenly echoed from Clara’s smartphone, breaking the tense silence of the east parking lot. She pulled the device out and stared at the screen in absolute horror. A bright red warning banner flashed across her display, accompanied by a rapid countdown timer: System Wipe Initiated. Core Database Encrypted. 04:59 Remaining.
"What did you do?!" Clara screamed, lunging forward, but Marcus grabbed her shoulder to hold her back from charging at Julian.
"Just a polite reminder of who actually holds the keys to your digital kingdom," Julian replied, slipping his phone back into his tailored wool coat pocket with chilling composure. "Every single design file, customer database, financial ledger, and patent application belonging to your publishing firm is currently being compressed into an encrypted offshore vault. Unless you sign a complete administrative waiver transferring ownership rights to my holding firm within the next five minutes, the decryption keys self-destruct, and your company ceases to exist."
Arthur stared at Julian, his breathing shallow and erratic. The betrayal by someone he had considered a brother in business for decades had completely shattered his emotional armor. "Julian... please. We can negotiate a buyout. You don't have to destroy forty years of hard work."
"There is nothing to negotiate, Arthur," Julian said coldly, turning his back to open the driver’s side door of the sedan. "You had your chance to play in the big leagues, and your daughter let her emotions ruin a brilliant corporate acquisition. Consider this an expensive lesson in modern business."
As Julian slid into the driver’s seat and slammed the door shut, Marcus didn't hesitate. He pulled a heavy tactical flashlight from his jacket pocket, sprinting toward the front of the idling sedan and smashing the lens directly into the reinforced glass of the driver’s side window. The glass cracked with a loud pop, but it didn't shatter entirely.
Julian gunned the engine, the tires screeching against the asphalt as the black sedan lurched forward, kicking up a cloud of dust and gravel that forced Marcus to cough and stumble backward.
"Get in the car!" Clara yelled, pulling her father toward their own vehicle parked twenty feet away. "We can't let him get out of the resort gates! If he hits the highway, the server wipe will complete before we can trace the ping!"
Marcus scrambled into the passenger seat of Arthur’s luxury SUV, while Clara slid into the driver’s seat, her hands gripping the leather steering wheel with white-knuckled intensity. She threw the gear into reverse, spun the vehicle in a tight, aggressive arc, and slammed her foot down on the accelerator. The heavy SUV roared to life, chasing the taillights of Julian’s sedan as it sped toward the main security gates of the resort.

Ahead of them, the automated security arm was still lowered, requiring a keycard scan to open. Julian’s car didn't even slow down; it smashed straight through the wooden gate barrier, sending splintered wood flying into the night air. Clara hit the gas even harder, hurtling the SUV through the shattered wreckage of the gate, determined to stop Julian before the countdown timer hit zero.
