Chapter 1: The Ringing Screen

The cold glow of the smartphone screen cut through the tense atmosphere of the high-end hotel lobby like a razor. Leo, the young boy with messy light brown hair and tear-stained cheeks, stood frozen in his yellow collared shirt. He stared at the device clutched in the trembling hands of the waitress, whose light blue and white uniform was damp with spilled ice water. The words glowing on the display—*Incoming Call: Unknown Secure Line*—seemed to pulse with a life of their own, echoing the frantic rhythm of Leo’s racing heart. Just seconds earlier, the elegant blonde woman in the red dress had finished shouting her fierce warning across the marble floor, defending the terrified child from the towering man in the sharp black suit.
Julian, the man in the black suit, stood rigid. His dark hair was meticulously combed, but his jaw was clenched so tightly a muscle twitched violently beneath his skin. His heavy hand still rested heavily on Leo’s thin shoulder, a physical anchor meant to project absolute authority. Yet, the voice that had just emanated from the smartphone speaker—cool, distorted, and urgent—had cracked the facade of absolute control Julian typically maintained. "You must get the child to safety before Victor finds out the truth," the automated voice had warned, hanging heavy in the air before the phone began to ring persistently.
The waitress swallowed hard, her eyes darting between Julian’s chilling glare and the tear-swollen face of the boy. She wanted to pull the phone back, to retreat behind the service counter and pretend she had heard nothing at all, but her fingers remained locked around the plastic casing. She was just an hourly worker trying to pay for night classes, suddenly thrust into the center of a nightmare she never volunteered for.
"Hand it over," Julian commanded, his voice dropping into a register that brook no argument. It was the tone of a man accustomed to buying compliance and erasing obstacles without a second thought.

Elena, the woman in the red dress, stepped between Julian and the waitress. Her eyes flashed with defensive fury. "Do not touch her, Julian," Elena hissed, her voice low and venomous. "You’ve done enough damage to this boy. The whole world doesn't bend to your corporate whims, no matter how many shell companies you operate."
Julian ignored Elena entirely, fixing his gaze on the glowing screen. The stakes were no longer hidden. Victor was watching.
