Chapter 1 - The Breaking Point

The pristine white hallway of the estate echoed with the sharp click of high heels against glossy marble flooring. Crystal chandeliers caught the harsh, unforgiving light, casting fractured reflections across the vintage mirror that hung near the sweeping staircase. Elena, draped in a stunning red slip dress that clung desperately to her rigid frame, felt her blood boil with a furious, consuming jealousy. Her blonde hair, styled in an elegant updo, had a few strands shaking loose as she marched forward, her eyes locked on the pathetic figure crumpled against the wall.

Sitting directly beneath the cracked ornate mirror was Clara, the twenty-five-year-old maid whose light blue uniform with its crisp white collar and apron seemed almost mocking in its innocence. Clara was crying hysterically, her hands trembling violently as she cradled her visibly rounded pregnant belly, shrinking away from the advancing rage.

"Get out of my sight!" Elena screamed, her voice tearing through the quiet opulence of the mansion like shattered glass.

Clara squeezed her eyes shut, tears streaming down her pale face as she gasped for breath.

"Please... leave me alone!" Clara sobbed, her voice cracking under the weight of sheer terror.

Just inches behind Elena strode Julian, a thirty-five-year-old tall Caucasian man with dark slicked-back hair, rough stubble, and intricate tattoos creeping up his neck and onto his calloused hands. His open black suit jacket swung rhythmically over a crisp white shirt. His expression remained unnervingly calm and protective, contrasting sharply with Elena's unhinged fury. As Elena raised a hand to lash out at the defenseless young woman, Julian stepped decisively between them. With a grip of iron, he grabbed Elena's arm firmly to stop her assault.

"Don't touch her again," Julian warned, his voice low, steady, and dangerously cold.

Elena froze, staring up at the man she called her partner in absolute disbelief and intense anger. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized he was choosing the maid over her. Without a word of hesitation, Julian knelt down beside the weeping maid. He placed a gentle, comforting hand on Clara’s trembling shoulder while looking up calmly at Elena, who stood towering over them. Deep emotional tension filled the hallway, thick enough to suffocate.

"Leave before I make you," Julian said quietly.
