Chapter 14 - The Final Stand

The muzzle of the revolver caught the harsh light of the desk lamp, casting a cold, metallic gleam across Julian’s distorted features. His face was twisted with absolute rage, the polished veneer of the successful politician completely stripped away to reveal a desperate, cornered criminal.
"You ruined everything, Clara," Julian hissed, his hand steadying as he aimed the weapon directly at her heart. "All those years of building this dynasty, all the sacrifices, and you just had to play the hero with the journalist's brat."
Elena didn't scream. She didn't panic. Drawing upon years of rigorous tactical self-defense training from her previous investigative assignments, she moved with silent, calculated precision. While Julian was entirely focused on Clara, Elena slid her hand quietly into her apron pocket, gripping the heavy metal base of the brass study lamp.
"You're a coward, Julian," Clara said, her voice steady and surprisingly calm as she kept his attention locked on her. She took half a step to the left, subtly clearing the line of sight. "You couldn't win fair and square, so you killed your own uncle and framed your own wife."
"Shut up!" Julian screamed, his finger tightening slightly on the trigger. "Shut your mouth right now or I swear to God I'll—"
Before Julian could finish the threat, Elena lunged forward with explosive speed. She swung the heavy brass lamp in a hard, sweeping arc, striking Julian’s wrist with bone-jarring force.
The revolver discharged with a deafening blast, the bullet shattering the large American flag hanging on the wood-paneled wall, tearing a ragged hole right through the fabric.
Julian cried out in pain as the heavy brass lamp connected a second time, striking him squarely across the temple. He staggered backward, his knees buckling beneath him as he crashed heavily onto the Persian rug, the gun slipping from his fingers and sliding across the polished floorboards.
Clara moved instantly, kicking the weapon far out of his reach before dropping to her knees to pin his arms down.
"It's over, Julian," Clara panted, her chest heaving as she held him down with all her remaining strength.

Sirens wailed outside once more, this time accompanied by the screech of multiple federal vehicles surrounding the perimeter. Within seconds, the front doors were kicked wide open, and heavily armed tactical agents flooded the study, subduing Julian and slapping heavy steel bracelets onto his wrists once and for all.
