Chapter 10 - The Second Raid

The sound of shattering glass tore through the silence of the estate like a thunderclap. Shards of safety glass rained down across the marble foyer as heavy boots hit the floor. This wasn't the local police department returning for a routine check; this was the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by heavily armed tactical agents clad in black body armor and helmets.

"FBI! Nobody move!"

Marcus panicked, dropping the bronze paperweight with a loud clatter. He spun around, frantically searching for an escape route, but the kitchen hallway was already blocked by the automated security shutters he had engaged only moments before.

"Drop the weapon! Hands where we can see them!" shouted a towering federal agent, leveling a specialized tactical rifle directly at Marcus’s chest.

Marcus raised his hands slowly, a look of absolute fury twisting his features as he realized his grand master plan had completely collapsed in a matter of seconds. "You don't understand! I'm Marcus Vance! My family practically built this district! You can't touch me!"

"You're under arrest for federal wire fraud, insider trading, and the assassination of a federal official," the lead agent barked, stepping forward and slamming plastic zip-ties around Marcus’s wrists with brutal efficiency.

Elena stood frozen in the corner of the kitchen, shielding the baby with her body as federal agents swarmed the area. She pulled the digital recorder from her apron, walking over to the lead agent and handing it directly to him.

"Everything you need to prove conspiracy to commit murder is on that device," Elena said steadily, her voice no longer trembling.

The agent took the small black drive, slipping it into an evidence pouch before nodding respectfully. "Thank you, Ms. Gomez. Your cover is safe. We’ve had eyes on the Vance family's illicit offshore accounts for months, but we needed the inside testimony to secure the federal indictments."

As Marcus was dragged past her toward the shattered front entrance, he shot Elena a look of pure, unadulterated hatred. "You think this is over?" Marcus snarled over his shoulder. "The lawyers are already waking up the appellate judges. We'll be out before dawn!"

Elena didn't flinch. She watched him go, knowing that even the wealthiest dynasties eventually crumble when their foundations are built on blood and lies. But as the federal agents began clearing the house, a chilling realization hit her: Clara Vance was still sitting in the back of a police cruiser, and Clara knew something about the baby that nobody else in the world did.
