Chapter 2

Officer Miller lowered his hand slightly, his brow furrowing as he looked back and forth between the immaculately dressed corporate titan and the young woman bleeding on the floor. The stark contrast in their appearances immediately skewed his initial perception of the crime scene. Victoria stood tall, composed, and radiating high-class legitimacy, while Elena lay crumpled in a pool of sticky liquid, gasping for air in her simple white top.
"Is that true, miss?" Officer Miller asked, directing his attention downward as he kneeled beside Elena. "Did you break in here?"
Elena’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. The sheer audacity of Victoria’s fabrication left her temporarily speechless. She tried to sit up, but a sharp spasm of pain shot through her torso, forcing a sharp gasp past her lips.
"No... that's a complete lie," Elena managed to whisper, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and righteous anger. "She didn't defend herself. She attacked me because I refuse to hand over the digital keys to my late father's charitable trust fund. Check the security cameras in the hallway, Officer. They recorded everything she did."
Victoria didn't flinch. She simply crossed her arms, letting out a soft, pitying sigh that actorially conveyed deep concern for an unstable relative. "Poor child has delusional episodes ever since her father passed away. She truly believes she owns assets that legally belong to our corporate board. It's heartbreaking, really. We've tried getting her psychiatric help for months."
"I am not crazy!" Elena cried out, her voice cracking as fresh tears cut tracks through the dust on her cheeks. She reached out, her fingers weakly grasping at the blue fabric of the officer's uniform. "Please, Officer Miller, don't listen to her. She's embezzled millions from the foundation. If you let her control that terminal, people will die."
Officer Miller gently pulled his sleeve from her grip, his expression hardening into professional skepticism. In his line of work, he had heard every frantic excuse in the book from desperate intruders caught red-handed. The presence of the broken decanter and the spilled amber liquid on the floor strongly corroborated Victoria’s narrative of a struggle during a break-in.
"Ma'am, I need you to calm down and stop resisting," Officer Miller instructed firmly, reaching for his radio to request a medical unit. "We'll let the investigators sort out property ownership at the precinct. Right now, you need an ambulance for those ribs."

"You can't let her touch that laptop," Elena gasped, pointing a shaking finger toward the sleek workstation on the mahogany desk across the room. "She's already uploaded a transfer virus."
Victoria smiled coldly over the officer's shoulder, mouthing three silent words that froze the blood in Elena's veins: "You lose, bitch."
