Chapter 12

The morning sun broke through the dense, gray Seattle cloud cover, casting a pale, washed-light across the glass facade of the Vance Foundation corporate headquarters. Inside the grand boardroom on the top floor, an emergency shareholder meeting was already underway. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating polished mahogany tables and tense, whispering board members.
At the center of the long table sat Victoria Vance, impeccably dressed in a fresh black business suit, her posture rigid and unyielding. She looked calm, composed, and entirely victorious, projecting an aura of absolute corporate stability despite the chaos of the previous night.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please settle down," Victoria announced, her voice echoing smoothly across the spacious room. She pressed a remote control in her hand, advancing a presentation slide on the massive projection screen behind her. "As you know, our beloved young board member, Elena Vance, suffered a tragic medical episode yesterday due to severe psychological strain following her father's passing. To ensure the financial stability of our philanthropic initiatives during this difficult transition, the executive committee has exercised emergency clause 14-B to consolidate asset management rights."
A murmur of agreement rippled through several board members who had been quietly bought off by Marcus Thorne over the years.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding bang.
All heads turned instantly toward the entrance. Detective Sarah Jenkins strode into the room with an authoritative stride, flanked by two federal marshals in dark suits. Right behind them walked Elena Vance, wearing a sharp white blazer over her bandaged frame, her long brown hair cascading over her shoulders. Her expression was ice-cold, projecting an undeniable strength that left the entire room utterly speechless.
Victoria’s carefully crafted composure fractured instantly. Her face drained of all color, her hands gripping the edges of the mahogany table so tightly her knuckles turned bone-white.
"What is the meaning of this intrusion?" Victoria demanded, her voice rising in sharp, defensive panic as she stood up from her chair. "This is a private corporate meeting! Security, remove these people immediately!"
"Sit down, Victoria," Detective Sarah Jenkins commanded, stepping forward and flashing her metallic gold badge directly in front of the board members. "You're in no position to give orders anymore. The emergency meeting you're conducting is completely illegal under federal securities fraud statutes."

Elena walked slowly to the head of the table, stopping directly opposite Victoria. She placed both hands flat on the polished mahogany surface, looking every single corrupt board member straight in the eyes.
"The corporate board meeting is adjourned, Victoria," Elena said, her voice ringing clear and steady through the silent room. "Because as of five minutes ago, federal authorities seized your offshore accounts, and I am officially invoking my father's master cryptographic key to reclaim full operational control of the Vance Foundation."
