Chapter 14: The Final Trial

""Hold your fire!"" Lyra shouted over the rising panic, pressing her hand against her grazed shoulder. A dark purple venom hissed and bubbled as it touched her skin, but the intense heat radiating from the phoenix tattoo immediately flared, searing the poison away and neutralizing the threat within seconds.

Alistair rushed to her side, his face pale with terror. ""Lyra! Are you hurt?""

""I'm fine,"" she breathed, standing up quickly and pointing toward the upper gallery. ""It came from the council gallery. Vane.""

Hearing her words, King Alistair’s expression hardened into a mask of pure fury. He turned to Master Gareth and Kaelen’s rebel commanders. ""Secure the upper gallery! Do not let Vane escape!""

Without hesitation, Gareth led a squad of royal guards and several rebel fighters charging toward the interior stairwells, their combined forces united by a common enemy. The division between crown and rebellion vanished entirely, replaced by a singular pursuit of justice against the corrupt officials who had manipulated them both for over a decade.

Inside the council chamber, Lord Chancellor Vane and Lady Caelia scrambled frantically toward the secret exit behind the heavy bookshelves, realizing their assassination attempt had failed. But before Vane could turn the hidden lever, the heavy oak doors burst open with a resounding crash.

Master Gareth and Kaelen strode into the room, flanked by armed guards. Vane stumbled backward, tripping over his velvet robes and landing hard against the obsidian conference table.

""It's over, Vane,"" Gareth said, his sword leveled directly at the chancellor's chest.

Vane laughed hysterically, his face flushed with panic and defeat. ""You think arresting me saves the kingdom? The corruption runs deeper than you know. The council created the peace you so desperately cherish!""

""No,"" Lyra’s voice rang out as she stepped into the chamber, flanked by King Alistair and Queen Valoria. The golden phoenix tattoo on her chest shone with a steady, calming brilliance that filled the room with warmth. ""The kingdom was built on blood and lies. We are going to build something real.""
