Chapter 5: A New Roof

Jax took the children to his penthouse overlooking the city. The place was spotless, minimalist, and completely unequipped for children. It felt more like a museum than a home.

When Leo walked in, he trod carefully, terrified his scuffed sneakers would ruin the polished hardwood floors.

""You don't have to walk on eggshells here, kiddo,"" Jax said, kneeling to untie Leo's shoes. ""This is your home now for as long as you need it.""

Leo looked at the vast, empty living room and then up at Jax. ""Are you going to send us to an orphanage?""

""Never,"" Jax promised.
