Jax led the children to his sedan parked outside. Ten years ago, Jax was a bitter, selfish man who walked away from Sarah after a terrible argument, unaware she was pregnant. He spent the next decade building an empire of concrete and luxury, trying to buy away the guilt that constantly ate at him.
Seeing Leo’s face was like looking into a mirror of his own childhood. As the car warmed up, Leo handed over a small, battered metal box.
""Mom told me to give you this if things ever got really bad,"" Leo murmured, his voice cracking with exhaustion. ""She died three weeks ago, Jax.""
