Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Coup

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Vance Global headquarters was bathed in the harsh morning sunlight filtering through bullet-resistant glass windows. The long mahogany table was surrounded by twelve members of the board of directors, their faces tense and whispering among themselves as Elena took her seat at the head of the table.
She wore a crisp white silk blouse and a black tailored blazer, her hair pulled back into a severe, elegant chignon. Thaddeus stood directly behind her right shoulder, while Marcus sat quietly at the far end of the table, clutching a thick black binder.
“This emergency session of the Vance Global board of directors is now called to order,” Elena announced, her voice carrying absolute authority across the silent room.
Richard Vance, Arthur’s younger brother and the longest-serving board member, leaned forward, resting his aging hands on the polished wood. His eyes were hard and full of barely concealed contempt.
“Before we proceed with any restructuring proposals, Madam Chairman,” Richard said smoothly, “several members wish to address your unilateral freezing of corporate accounts and your reckless handling of the Pacific Northwest land portfolio. You are destroying shareholder value based on personal marital disputes.”
Elena did not flinch. She opened a leather-bound folder before her and slid a series of documents across the polished wood toward Richard.
“My marital dispute ended when Julian signed away corporate assets to transnational syndicates,” Elena replied coldly. “Assets that were covertly transferred through a subsidiary overseen by a member of this very board.”
Richard glanced down at the documents, his face turning an unhealthy shade of mottled grey. The papers detailed the offshore wire transfers authorized under his own personal board signature, routing millions of dollars into Viktor’s shell companies.
“These are forgeries,” Richard sputtered, standing up so abruptly his chair scraped loudly against the parquet floor. “Fabricated documents designed by an unqualified girl to stage a boardroom coup!”
“Are they forgeries, Richard?” Marcus asked quietly, standing up and opening his own binder. He tossed a stack of certified bank statements onto the center of the table. “Because federal investigators have already matched the IP addresses of the authorization terminals directly to your private residence in Greenwich.”
The boardroom erupted into chaos. Directors shouted over one another, slamming their hands on the table as the undeniable proof of internal corruption laid bare the rot at the heart of the company.

Richard’s hands began to shake uncontrollably. He glared at Elena with pure, unadulterated venom. “You think winning this vote changes anything? You’ve made enemies far more powerful than this board, Elena. They won't stop until everything you own is burned to ash.”
