Chapter 14 - The Final Truth

The heavy oak doors clicked shut behind the federal agents, leaving the boardroom in a profound, heavy silence. The remaining board members sat frozen in their seats, looking nervously between Julian and the empty chair at the end of the table.

Julian didn't celebrate. He turned slowly and looked at Marcus, who was nervously adjusting his tie, refusing to meet Julian's gaze.

"The meeting is adjourned," Julian announced quietly, his voice carrying an undeniable weight of command.

Within minutes, the boardroom emptied completely, leaving only Julian, Victoria Vance, and Emma. Victoria closed her leather briefcase with a soft snap, standing up and smoothing down her tailored skirt.

"The stock price will take a massive hit today," Victoria said professionally, looking at Julian. "But with both Arthur and Richard out of the picture, and the board thoroughly compromised, you now hold absolute majority control of Sterling Enterprises. You can restructure the entire company from the ground up."

Julian nodded slowly. "Thank you, Victoria. For everything."

"Don't thank me yet," Victoria replied with a rare, faint smile. "I'm still billing your corporate retainer at my standard hourly rate."

With that, the lawyer turned and walked out of the room, leaving Julian and Emma alone in the expansive, sunlit space.

Emma walked over to the tall arched window, looking out over the sprawling city skyline below. The morning sun was fully risen now, casting a golden light across the glass towers of the empire. She wrapped her arms around herself, taking a deep, steadying breath.

Julian walked up behind her, stopping just inches away, hesitant to crowd her.

"Are you okay?" Julian asked softly.

Emma turned her head to look at him, her eyes shining with unshed tears, but this time, there was no fear in them—only a profound, overwhelming peace.

"For the first time in twenty years, Julian... I think I am," Emma whispered. "The ghosts are gone. Your father and your uncle... they can't hurt us anymore."

Julian reached out, gently taking her hand in his. Her fingers no longer trembled.

"They tried to build an empire on secrets, lies, and stolen lives," Julian said, his voice thick with emotion. "They thought power meant control over people. But they were wrong."

Emma smiled softly, stepping closer to him. "What do we do now, CEO Sterling?"

Julian smiled back, the tension of the past twenty-four hours finally melting away from his shoulders.

"We go home," Julian said softly. "To our son."
