Chapter 11 - Dawn of the Boardroom War

The first rays of pale morning light pierced through the tall arched windows of the Sterling Enterprises boardroom, casting long, stark shadows across the polished mahogany conference table. The room was already packed. Board members in expensive tailored suits sat in grim silence, whispering among themselves as they reviewed printed copies of the financial leaks Arthur had orchestrated overnight.

Julian pushed open the heavy double doors and walked in with measured, deliberate steps. He wasn't wearing his usual corporate armor of a tightly fitted tuxedo; instead, he wore a simple dark dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up slightly, looking more like a father ready for a fight than a corporate executive trying to save his job.

To everyone's surprise, Emma walked right beside him. She wore a sharp, borrowed black blazer over her simple clothes, her chin held high, refusing to shrink under the weight of a dozen hostile glares.

"You shouldn't be here, Julian," whispered Marcus Sterling, an elderly board member and Arthur’s oldest ally, leaning forward in his chair. "Bringing her into the boardroom? You are handing the opposition every weapon they need to crucify you."

"Let them try," Julian replied calmly, taking the head seat at the table. Emma stood firmly right behind his chair, her presence steadying him.

At the far end of the table, Victoria Vance sat with her briefcase open, looking neutral, bound by her professional ethics to act as corporate counsel for whoever held the majority share.

"The emergency meeting of the Sterling Enterprises Board of Directors will now come to order," Marcus announced, standing up to take control in Arthur's absence. He cleared his throat, looking directly at Julian. "We have all seen the devastating reports circulating in the financial press regarding the unauthorized custody arrangements, document falsifications, and the sudden emergence of... Ms. Collins."

Marcus paused, casting a disapproving glance at Emma.

"Given the unprecedented drop in our stock value and the severe breach of corporate governance," Marcus continued, raising his voice slightly, "I am calling for an immediate vote of no confidence in the acting CEO, Julian Sterling, and a motion to strip him of his voting shares under the morality clause of the corporate charter."

A murmur of agreement rippled through several board members. Hands began to lift toward the center of the table.

"Before you vote," a cold, sharp voice interrupted from the doorway.

The heavy doors swung open wide. A tall, impeccably dressed man stepped into the room—Richard Sterling, Julian’s estranged uncle, who had been exiled to the London branch of the company a decade ago by Arthur. Richard wore a smug, triumphant smile as he walked toward the empty seat beside Marcus.

"Before you hand over the empire to a dinosaur who lost his grip," Richard announced smoothly, "you should know that Arthur transferred his controlling shares to me at midnight."
