Chapter 14: Springtime in the Mansion

Six months had passed since the trial, bringing the vibrant warmth of spring to the Sterling estate. The manicured gardens were blooming with colorful tulips and fragrant lilacs, their blossoms reflecting the renewed vitality inside the mansion. The dark, sterile atmosphere that had once choked the hallways was gone, replaced by the genuine laughter of a thriving toddler and the comforting hum of domestic harmony. Ethan, now nearly eighteen months old, was taking his first confident steps across the plush living room rug, chasing a bright red rubber ball while Martha watched closely with an affectionate smile. Victor walked into the living room carrying a stack of business portfolios, though his professional focus had fundamentally shifted to balance corporate success with devoted fatherhood. He dropped the folders onto the coffee table and scooped up a giggling Ethan into his arms, tossing the boy gently into the air as Ethan squealed with pure joy. Martha chuckled, wiping her hands on her apron. "Careful, Mr. Sterling, he’s getting heavier by the day. You’ll throw your back out trying to keep up with him." Victor smiled, pressing a warm kiss to his son’s cheek before setting him back down gently on his feet. "Let him grow, Martha. Every single day with him is a gift we almost lost." Martha nodded, her expression filled with deep contentment. The household was no longer a gilded prison built on lies and social status, but a true home defined by safety, transparency, and unconditional love. They had weathered the worst storm imaginable and emerged stronger, proving that truth and genuine care will always triumph over the coldest deception.
