Chapter 6 - The Federal Corridor

The heavy iron doors slid open with a low, mechanical hiss, revealing three men in dark charcoal suits and federal windbreakers. Their badges gleamed under the dim emergency lights of the subterranean corridor. Julian struggled beneath Rocco’s unrelenting grip, his slicked-back dark hair falling messily across his pale forehead as he kicked his expensive leather shoes against the concrete floor.

"You can't do this!" Julian shrieked, his voice cracking into a high-pitched desperation that echoed off the damp stone walls. "I have a contract! I have the backing of the regional directors! This is a corporate hostile takeover, not a criminal matter!"

The lead federal agent, a tall man with sharp graying temples and piercing brown eyes, stepped forward. He pulled a crisp, folded document from his inside breast pocket and snapped it open with a sharp flick of his wrist.

"Julian Vance—no relation, as the courts will undoubtedly note—you are under federal arrest for wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and the deliberate falsification of Vance Enterprise maritime shipping records," the agent recited calmly, his voice completely devoid of emotion.

Arthur adjusted the cuffs of his bespoke black suit, watching the scene with the cold detachment of a chessmaster observing a pawn being swept off the board. He had spent the last five years in quiet exile, watching from a distance while corporate parasites like Julian fattened themselves on the legacy he and Rocco had built through decades of blood, sweat, and ruthless ambition.

"Read him his rights, Agent Miller," Arthur instructed, his deep voice cutting through Julian’s frantic protests like a razor. "And make sure his personal communications are completely jammed. He has offshore accounts in the Caymans that need to be frozen before his second-in-command realizes the trap has snapped shut."

Julian stopped struggling for a fraction of a second, his wide, bloodshot eyes darting toward Arthur in sheer horror.

"You knew about the Caymans," Julian whispered, the fight completely draining out of his limbs as Rocco shoved him forward into the waiting custody of the federal agents.

"I built this empire, Julian," Arthur replied softly, stepping closer until he stood right at the edge of the agent's barrier. "Did you honestly believe I would leave the front door unlocked for a thief who didn't even know how the hinges worked?"

Agent Miller grabbed Julian’s arm, pulling the handcuffs tight with a sharp metallic click. As they dragged the weeping concierge down the long, dimly lit corridor toward the freight elevators, Julian threw one last terrified look over his shoulder.

"The board won't let you keep it!" Julian screamed as the heavy security door began to close. "The anonymous shareholders will tear this company apart by morning!"
