Chapter 9: The Forgotten Art**

Mrs. Gable led Julian into a small back room filled with cardboard boxes. "Elena asked me to hold onto these until Mia was grown. But since you're here, they belong to you."

Inside the boxes were dozens of paintings. They weren't masterworks of classical technique, but raw, vibrant landscapes painted on reclaimed wood and discarded canvases. Julian recognized his own style from his university days, but Elena had added her own brushstrokes—bright splashes of yellow, gold, and sea-green over his somber grays.

"She kept your dream alive when you traded it for a corner office," Mrs. Gable said gently.

Julian ran his fingertips over the textured paint. He remembered the nights they had spent in a drafty garage, dreaming of opening an independent community gallery where art was accessible to everyone, not just high-society collectors.

"Papa, look," Mia said, holding up a small unfinished canvas showing a father holding a young girl's hand near the sea.

"She left that one for you to finish," Mrs. Gable said.

Julian felt tears finally break past his composure, washing away years of cynicism.
