Chapter 12: First Day of School**

The transition wasn't without its challenges. Mia had spent years living in quiet isolation, and adapting to a bustling elementary school in the city brought moments of intense anxiety.
On her first morning, she froze on the sidewalk outside the school gates, clutching Julian’s hand with trembling fingers. "What if they find out I didn't grow up like them?" she whispered.
Julian knelt down to eye level, adjusting the collar of her new coat. He took the golden locket from around his own neck—where he had carried it since their road trip—and placed it gently into her palm.
"Your mother lived with more courage and grace than anyone I've ever met," Julian said softly. "You carry that inside you. You don't need to fit into their world, Mia. You just need to be honest and kind. The rest doesn't matter."
Mia squeezed the locket, took a deep breath, and nodded. "Will you be here when the bell rings?"
May you like
"Right here," Julian promised. "Every single day."
