Chapter 6: Uncharted Waters**

Freedom felt unexpectedly terrifying. Julian returned home to find Clara waiting on the front steps of the manor, an overnight bag beside her.
"I'm not here to yell at you," she said as Julian approached. "I broke off the engagement because you lied by omission. But I came back to give you this."
She handed him a thick manila folder. "My father's firm ran background checks on Arthur Vance last year. Vance wasn't just diverting Elena’s trust funds; he was siphoning assets from dozens of your family's philanthropic accounts."
Julian took the folder, stunned. "Why are you helping me?"
"Because when I saw you looking at that locket, I didn't see the cold executive I was supposed to marry," Clara said gently. "I saw a human being waking up. Don't go back to sleep, Julian."
She turned toward her car, pausing before opening the door. "Take care of that little girl. She deserves a father, not a headline."
