Chapter 12
Two uniformed airport security officers approached the group, their expressions serious and professional as they assessed the situation. One of them rested a hand lightly on his utility belt, eyeing the open rose-gold suitcase and the scattered financial ledgers with immediate suspicion.
"Is there a problem here, folks?" the lead officer asked, his voice carrying the firm authority of federal transit enforcement. "That luggage needs to remain secured, and this area is designated for active passenger boarding, not document reviews."
Margaret stepped forward before Julian or Clara could speak, flashing an identification badge from her brown leather handbag that instantly commanded the officer's attention. "Officer, my name is Margaret Vance. I am placing an official notification regarding a corporate financial irregularity that requires immediate federal intervention. My family members here are prepared to surrender voluntarily and cooperate fully with the authorities."
The officer glanced at the badge, then looked over at Julian and Clara, noting the tense postures and the incriminating documents visible inside the open luggage. He tapped his radio shoulder mic, calling for backup and financial crimes division liaison officers stationed in the main terminal terminal hub.

Julian took a deep, steadying breath, releasing Eleanor’s hand for a brief moment as he stepped forward to face the music directly. "She's right, officer. I take full responsibility for my negligence, and we are ready to answer for everything."
Clara bowed her head in quiet submission, offering no resistance as the second security officer stepped closer to secure the rose-gold suitcase with heavy-duty evidence tape. The holiday decorations overhead continued to blink and glitter, casting a surreal, colorful glow over the sobering scene unfolding on the terrazzo floor. The illusion of the perfect family holiday had utterly vanished, replaced by the raw, redemptive truth of accountability.
