Chapter 14: The Final Confrontation

The damp, salty air of the harbor whipped around Maya as she burst through the rusted side door of the warehouse, her boots splashing into puddles of stagnant rainwater. Ahead of her, standing near the edge of the concrete pier with a heavy black duffel bag slung over his shoulder, was Arthur Vance. The dark water of the harbor churned violently beneath the wooden pilings, reflecting the flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers sealing off the perimeter behind them. Vance stopped in his tracks, turning around slowly with a cold, desperate sneer on his face.
"You really don't know when to quit, do you, girl?" Vance said, his voice carrying easily over the roar of the wind as he reached inside his heavy wool coat.
"It's over, Arthur," Maya said, stepping forward without hesitation, keeping her distance while maintaining complete control of her voice and posture. "The federal agents have the main servers, the offshore accounts are frozen, and your backup van is surrounded."
Vance laughed darkly, a harsh, humorless sound that echoed off the warehouse wall. "You think a few federal warrants matter when I have the physical master deeds right here in this bag? I can trade these documents to international brokers by morning and disappear before the ink dries on your college diploma."
"You aren't going anywhere," Agent Miller's voice boomed from the shadows as he stepped out from behind a stack of wooden crates, his service weapon drawn and pointed steadily at Vance’s chest. "Drop the bag, Arthur. Drop it right now."
Vance’s eyes darted frantically between Miller and the surrounding tactical officers who were closing in from every direction, cutting off all avenues of escape. A dangerous, calculating micro-expression crossed his features as his hand twitched inside his coat pocket, gripping something metallic. Clara and Julian emerged from the doorway just behind Maya, holding their breath as the tense standoff reached its absolute boiling point.

"If I'm going down, I'm taking every single piece of this corrupt family's legacy with me," Vance snarled, lunging toward the edge of the pier as he yanked a heavy laptop from his coat and raised it over the dark water.
Maya lunged forward with a burst of athletic speed that caught everyone completely off guard, launching herself directly at Vance’s side and tackling him hard against the damp concrete just as he hurled the device toward the churning sea.
