Chapter 2

The shattered fragments of the crystal glass caught the dazzling glow of the crystal chandeliers, scattering red glints across the marble floor like drops of fresh blood. Silence descended upon the grand ballroom, heavy and suffocating. The gentle murmurs of two hundred invited guests dissolved into an uneasy hush as all eyes gravitated toward the head table. Julian stood rigid, his jaw clenched so tightly that muscles twitched violently along his cheek. His dark eyes burned down at seven-year-old Lily, whose small frame shook under the weight of his furious gaze.
“Why did you do that?” Julian’s voice cut through the quiet air, harsh and demanding, carrying the bitter edge of public humiliation.
Lily did not shrink away as expected. Instead, she lifted her tear-streaked face, her blue eyes wide with a desperate urgency that defied her tender age. Her small fingers trembled as she raised the smartphone she had clutched tightly in her palm the entire evening. The screen illuminated her damp cheeks with a cold, pale light.
“She swapped his drink,” Lily whispered, her voice cracking with the emotional weight of a secret too heavy for a child to bear.
Across the table, Elena stood frozen in her pristine white lace wedding gown, the delicate fabric seemingly mocking the sudden chill in the room. Her breath hitched in her throat, a soft gasp escaping her lips as her manicured hands flew to cover her mouth. The sheer terror in her eyes was unmistakable, a flicker of raw panic that did not escape Julian’s sharp observation. He shifted his gaze from the tearful child to his newlywed bride, watching the color drain completely from Elena’s face until she looked as pale as her silk veil.
Julian’s initial anger shifted rapidly into a cold, calculating intensity. The festive atmosphere of the reception evaporated instantly, replaced by an atmosphere of impending exposure. He stared down at the small device glowing in Lily’s hand, his features hardening into an impenetrable mask of absolute determination.

“Don't move until I'm finished,” Julian instructed sternly, his low voice carrying a quiet authority that commanded absolute obedience.
Slowly, deliberately, Julian reached out and took the smartphone from the child’s small, cold hand. The device felt heavy, a digital anchor dragging them all away from the illusion of a fairytale wedding and plunging them straight into a nightmare of deception. The red numbers of the countdown timer blinked steadily in the palm of his hand, ticking away the remaining seconds like a relentless heartbeat, daring them all to face the ugly truth hidden beneath the layers of champagne and white roses.
