Chapter 9: The House of Cards**
Federal agents poured out of the vehicles, weapons drawn and badges gleaming under the flashing blue and red emergency lights.
"Arthur Sterling, put your hands above your head! You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit securities fraud, bribery, and evidence tampering!" shouted the lead agent.
Sterling dropped the laptop, his jaw slack in utter disbelief. He turned frantically toward Elena, who stood calmly by the water's edge, untouched by the chaos.
"You set me up!" Sterling screamed as agents forced him to the ground, slapping heavy metal handcuffs around his wrists. "You tricked me!"
"You trapped yourself, Mr. Sterling," Elena said softly. "Greed made you reckless."
Julian Vance stepped out of the lead FBI vehicle alongside the Assistant United States Attorney. He looked down at the disgraced lawyer being dragged toward a squad car.
"It’s over, Arthur," Julian said calmly. "Clara is being detained at her penthouse as we speak. Every offshore account connected to the Vance Foundation has been officially frozen by federal warrant."
Sterling lowered his head in silent, crushing defeat.
Julian walked over to Elena and handed her a warm jacket. "You did it, Elena. Your mother's name is cleared."

Elena looked up at the stars peeking through the Brooklyn fog, taking her first deep, peaceful breath in years. "Not yet. We still have to rebuild what they broke."
