Chapter 5: Whispers in the Shadows**

That evening, Clara Vance sat in the dimly lit lounge of an elite private country club. Across from her sat Arthur Sterling, nervously swirling his single malt whiskey.

"She found the Cayman accounts, Clara," Sterling hissed under his breath. "How did a nobody from Queens crack an encryption structure we built fifteen years ago?"

Clara’s polished exterior was cracking, dark circles visible beneath her heavy makeup. "Julian gave her the internal encryption keys. He's been hunting for an excuse to dismantle my family's influence ever since my husband died."

"We need to stop her before she hands that binder to the District Attorney," Sterling muttered, sweating through his collar. "If the DA opens a formal investigation, we’re looking at ten to twenty years for grand larceny and securities fraud."

Clara took a slow sip of her martini, her eyes narrowing like a predator's. "Elena Cruz thinks she’s untouchable because she has public sympathy. But public sympathy is fragile. Everyone has a price, and if they don't, they have a weakness."
