Chapter 8: Midnight at the Pier**

The fog rolled heavily over the abandoned docks of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. A solitary black sedan sat idling in the darkness. Elena stepped out of a cab, clutching a sleek silver flash drive in her coat pocket.
Arthur Sterling stepped out of the sedan, two imposing private security guards flanking him.
"You made the smart choice, Miss Cruz," Sterling sneered, holding out his gloved hand. "Family always comes before foolish crusades."
Elena stepped closer, maintaining a steady, unwavering gaze. "I want the written guarantee signed by the hospital board first."
Sterling pulled a certified letter from his inner pocket and handed it over. Elena inspected the document under the amber streetlamp. Once satisfied, she tossed the silver flash drive into his hand.
"A pleasure doing business with you," Sterling mocked. He immediately plugged the drive into a rugged laptop resting on the hood of the car. He began typing furiously, transferring the encrypted financial ledgers into a secure wipe directory.
"Deleting evidence won't wash the blood off your hands, Sterling," Elena said quietly.
"History is written by the winners, my dear," Sterling laughed, pressing 'Execute'.
Instantly, the screen flashed crimson. A massive blue federal emblem locked the operating system, accompanied by a loud electronic chime.
