Chapter 9 - The Crimson Siren

The high-pitched digital siren pierced the quiet dawn silence of the executive boardroom, echoing off the mahogany walls and glass partitions with jarring intensity. Arthur stood up abruptly from the conference table, his hand gripping the edge of the polished wood as he stared at the flashing amber master control panel on the wall. Rebecca remained seated, her eyes shifting rapidly from the screaming alarm to Julian, who stood before them completely unfazed, his hands resting casually in his pockets despite the ash staining his black tuxedo.

“What have you done, Julian?” Arthur demanded, his authoritative voice cutting through the electronic wail. “That control panel is tied directly to the federal SEC compliance grid. A secondary lockdown of this magnitude triggers an automatic federal audit.”

Julian offered a slow, measured nod, keeping his posture impeccably upright.

“You wanted the throne, Father, and Rebecca wanted her revenge,” Julian said, his tone dangerously calm. “You both assumed that removing me from the CEO seat would instantly clear the ledger. But you didn't check the subsidiary filings from the past three fiscal quarters.”

Rebecca stood up slowly, her movements deliberate and controlled as she walked over to the open laptop on the conference table. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, bringing up a complex web of shell corporations and offshore asset transfers registered under the Vane legacy trust. Her face went pale as the data unspooled before her eyes. The accounts weren't just flagged; they were actively being frozen by an automated federal prosecutor’s script programmed to execute the moment Julian’s administrative credentials were manually revoked by a master key override.

“He didn't just drain the accounts,” Rebecca whispered, her voice tight with disbelief as she looked up at Julian. “He tied the entire corporate reserve to a federal receivership trap. If the SEC steps in, every asset belonging to the Vane family is seized under racketeering statutes.”

Arthur turned sharply toward Julian, his face flushed with a lifetime of bottled fury. He raised his hand as if to strike his son, but stopped mid-air, his trembling fingers curling into a tight fist as he recognized the checkmate.

“You sabotaged your own legacy just to ensure we couldn't have it either,” Arthur said, his voice dropping to a gravelly, defeated whisper.

“I didn't sabotage anything,” Julian corrected smoothly, stepping closer to the conference table and leaning down to lock eyes with his father. “I simply exposed the rot that you both spent decades sweeping beneath these imported Persian rugs. You wanted a war for the succession? Congratulations. You won the crown of a bankrupt kingdom.”

Suddenly, the heavy glass double doors of the penthouse boardroom shattered inward with a deafening crash. A half-dozen federal agents in tactical gear swarmed into the room, their weapons drawn and laser sights painting a grid of crimson dots across the walls, the furniture, and the three members of the Vane family.
