Chapter 9: The Confession**

By dawn, the mansion was surrounded by state investigators and federal agents. Walter was taken away in handcuffs, his arrogance completely shattered. Under heavy interrogation and the promise of a reduced sentence, he surrendered the encrypted drives detailing every transaction he and Alana had coordinated.

Alana was arrested at a private airfield twenty miles north, carrying two duffel bags filled with bearer bonds and false passports.

Julian stood on the front steps of the mansion, watching the unmarked police cars drive away. The morning mist hung low over the manicured lawn.

Detective Miller, a seasoned investigator, walked up the steps and handed Julian a thick manila folder.

"Your sister was smarter than they anticipated, Mr. Thorne," Miller said. "She documented every threat Walter made. She kept journals, dates, and account numbers. She didn't leave because she hated your family; she left so Walter couldn't use her to blackmail you for corporate control."

Julian looked at the folder, his eyes burning. "She suffered alone for five years."
