Chapter 11: Vermont**

Three months later, the roar of the city and the cold echo of marble were replaced by the rustle of maple leaves and the sweet scent of pine.

Julian purchased no grand estates. Instead, he drove an old pickup truck up the gravel driveway of Claire’s modest farmhouse in rural Vermont—the property mentioned in her final letter.

The house was weathered, with white clapboard siding and a wide front porch overlooking rolling green pastures. It needed paint, the roof required repairs, and the fence was leaning, but for the first time in his life, Julian felt he could breathe.

Lily ran through the tall grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy Julian had adopted from a local rescue shelter. She wore a pair of sturdy denim overalls, her laughter ringing clear and pure across the valley.

Julian sat on the porch steps with a toolbox, repairing the wooden steps. His hands, once soft and accustomed only to fountain pens, were now calloused and stained with wood polish.

"Uncle Julian!" Lily shouted, running up the steps with a bouquet of wild yellow dandelions. "For your table!"

Julian smiled, taking the flowers. "They are the most beautiful flowers in the world, Lily."
