Chapter 15: The Golden Hour**

Ten years later.
Thirteen-year-old Lily stood at the edge of the pasture, her camera slung over her shoulder, capturing the golden afternoon light filtering through the autumn trees. She possessed Claire’s artistic eye and Julian’s quiet strength.
On the porch, Julian sat on the rocking chair, his hair silvered at the temples, reading a book. The old dog lay at his feet, thumping its tail lazily against the floorboards.
Lily walked up the steps and sat on the railing, looking out over the valley.
"What are you thinking about, kiddo?" Julian asked, closing his book.
"I was thinking about the story you told me," Lily said softly. "About the day you brought me here."
Julian looked at her, seeing both the frightened toddler in the dusty pink dress and the confident young woman she had become.
"Do you ever miss your old life?" she asked.
Julian smiled, taking a deep breath of the crisp mountain air, rich with the scent of pine and earth. He reached over and gently tapped the camera around her neck.
"Lily, a man can spend his entire life building castles out of stone and marble, only to realize he is living in a mausoleum," Julian said gently. "True wealth isn't what you hold in your hands. It's who you're holding your hands out for."

Lily smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder.
The sun dipped below the mountains, casting long, warm shadows across the land, perfectly at peace.
