Chapter 11 - The Tactical Breach

The crimson emergency lights pulsed rhythmically against the mahogany walls as the tactical unit flooded the boardroom, their weapons lowered but their stances aggressively authoritative. Julian released his grip on Elena's arm, stepping back into the shadows as the leader of the squad stepped forward, flipping up his night-vision visor. It wasn't federal marshals or corporate security; it was a private extraction team bearing the unmarked insignia of the Thorne Trust. Elena didn't panic. She used the sudden confusion to slip sideways behind the heavy conference table, her hand sliding into her jacket pocket to grip her smartphone.

"Secure the perimeter!" the tactical leader barked, his voice cutting through the hum of the dying ventilation system. "Nobody leaves this floor until the vault is accessed."

Catherine moved swiftly to block the team's advance toward her daughter, her navy pantsuit blending into the crimson shadows. "You have no jurisdiction here! This is corporate property under federal injunction!"

"The injunction was just amended, Mrs. Vance," a cold, synthesized voice echoed from the hallway.

Stepping through the shattered doorway was a woman in a sharp grey trench coat, her silver hair pulled back into a severe bun. It was Victoria Thorne, Julian's estranged sister and the chief legal architect of the Thorne Trust. She walked with deliberate, unhurried steps, her sharp eyes scanning the room until they located Elena crouching near the end of the table.

Julian stepped back into the red glow, addressing his sister without looking at her. "Did you find it, Victoria? Is the archive on the main server?"

"The digital archive was wiped clean five minutes before our breach," Victoria replied, her voice dripping with venom as she glared at Elena. "Someone initiated a remote protocol from a mobile device inside this room. Someone who knew we were coming."

Elena slowly stood up from behind the table, her smartphone clutched tightly in her hand, the screen glowing with a bright, steady green confirmation message. She looked directly at Victoria and Julian, a fearless, defiant smile touching her lips.

"You're too late," Elena said calmly, her voice ringing clear in the tense room. "The ledger isn't on a local server anymore. It's already uploading to every major journalistic outlet and federal oversight committee in the country."

Victoria's face contorted with sudden, blinding panic. She drew a small electronic override device from her coat pocket, pointing it directly at Elena. "Shut it down, you foolish girl, or I swear to God you won't leave this building alive."
