Chapter 15

Three months passed, transforming the sprawling estate from a gilded prison into a genuine home once more. The ivy climbing the brick facade seemed greener, the water in the courtyard fountain clearer, and the heavy mahogany doors welcomed the evening breeze without a hint of dread. Inside the freshly painted study, Julian sat at the large oak desk, signing the final paperwork that permanently restructured his corporate holdings and severed every financial tie to the dark past Helena had tried to weaponize against them. The criminal investigation had concluded swiftly, the digital evidence and audio logs proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Helena’s actions were calculated, malicious, and entirely isolated from the rest of the family. Downstairs, the front door clicked open, and the sound of light, confident footsteps echoed across the marble foyer. Clara walked into the study, her blonde hair styled simply down her back, wearing a comfortable linen dress completely free of bandages or bruises. She placed a steaming cup of black coffee on the corner of the desk, leaning down briefly to rest her hand affectionately on Julian’s shoulder. “Dinner’s almost ready, Dad. And you promised we’d take the boat out before sunset,” Clara said, a bright, authentic smile lighting up her face. Julian looked up, closing the leather folder with a satisfying thud, and smiled back at his daughter. The scars of the past would always remain as quiet reminders of how close they had come to losing everything, but looking into Clara’s clear, untroubled eyes, Julian knew they had won the most important battle of their lives. Together, they walked out through the grand double doors and down the steps, stepping out into the warm, golden embrace of a truly peaceful evening.
