Chapter 13

Before Helena could recover from the paralyzing shock of Julian's revelation, the distinct, heavy rumble of multiple high-powered vehicles turning into the estate’s circular drive shattered the quiet afternoon air. Flashing red and blue lights began to paint the soaring white pillars of the mansion's facade in urgent, rhythmic strokes, casting long, frantic shadows through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the study. Helena spun around, rushing to the window and parting the heavy velvet drapes just enough to see two unmarked federal vehicles and a local police cruiser blocking the front gates. Two officers in tactical vests stepped out, accompanied by an attorney carrying a thick leather briefcase. Helena turned back around, her breathing shallow and ragged, her eyes blazing with a mixture of pure venom and sheer terror. “You planned this. You set this up while you were out on the lawn,” she whispered, her voice trembling with betrayal. Julian stood up slowly from the desk, buttoning his grey suit jacket with deliberate precision. “I didn't need to plan anything, Helena. I just had to give you enough rope to hang yourself,” Julian said, his voice devoid of pity. As heavy, authoritative knocks echoed against the grand front doors downstairs, Helena made a desperate lunge toward the side exit leading to the private service stairs. But Julian was faster; he stepped into her path, blocking the doorway with his solid frame and grabbing her wrist with a firm, inescapable grip. “Stay right where you are, Helena. Your hosting duties in this house are officially over,” Julian commanded. The study door burst open a second later as local officers swarmed into the room, instantly securing the perimeter and placing Helena under formal arrest as her elaborate web of lies and cruelty finally collapsed around her.
