Chapter 14 - The Echoes Of Justice

The private memorial garden behind the Arlington National Cemetery was quiet, bathed in the soft, golden light of late afternoon. Rows of pristine white headstones stretched out across the rolling green hills, standing as silent sentinels to those who had given their lives in service to the country.

Vivienne stood before a modest, weathered headstone bearing her father’s name, placing a single white rose gently onto the damp grass. She wore her service cap tucked neatly under her arm, her dark hair still pinned in the familiar updo, but the heavy burden that had weighed upon her shoulders for years had finally vanished.

Marcus walked up quietly behind her, stopping a few paces away to give her space, holding a folded American flag recovered from the newly restored veterans' trust fund.

"The Secretary of Defense just signed the final restitution orders," Marcus said softly, breaking the peaceful silence. "Every single veteran who was wrongfully evicted or stripped of their pension will receive full back-pay and housing grants by the end of the week."

Vivienne closed her eyes, letting out a long, slow breath as a profound sense of closure washed over her soul.

"He would have liked that," Vivienne whispered, looking down at the carved stone. "He never cared about the wealth or the prestige. He just wanted his honor back."

Marcus stepped closer, resting his hand gently on her shoulder, his expression warm and steadfast.

"You gave it back to him, Vivienne," Marcus said softly. "You tore down an entire empire of lies just to tell the truth."

Vivienne turned around to face him, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across her face—free of calculation, free of pain, and filled with the promise of a new beginning.

Suddenly, her secure military comms device buzzed softly in her coat pocket. She pulled it out, glancing down at the screen where a high-priority encrypted message from the Department of Defense flashed across the display.

She opened the message, her eyes scanning the first line, and her smile instantly froze into an expression of absolute, chilling shock.
