Chapter 13 - The Final Assembling

The early morning sun finally broke through the heavy gray clouds, casting a sharp, cleansing light across the grand plaza of the Department of Defense headquarters in Arlington. Inside the high-security auditorium, the atmosphere was thick with tension as military officials, federal prosecutors, and members of the congressional oversight committee took their seats.
Vivienne walked down the center aisle in her pristine white dress uniform, her head held high, carrying the waterproof evidence pouch containing the Project Vanguard ledger and the downloaded server logs. Marcus walked beside her, his presence a silent wall of unwavering support.
Seated at the front of the auditorium was General Marcus Vance Jr.—no relation to Vivienne’s grandfather, but the newly appointed Chief of Military Ethics—waiting solemnly at the podium.
Vivienne placed the evidence pouch gently onto the mahogany reading stand before the committee, the sound echoing clearly in the quiet hall.
"The complete audit trail of the St. Clair Foundation, along with the recovered Cold War slush fund archives, has been authenticated by the Department of Justice," Vivienne announced, her voice steady, clear, and resonant. "Every illicit transfer, every corrupted signature, and every bypassed security protocol has been logged and verified."
A murmur rippled through the rows of seated officials as several high-profile congressional members shifted nervously in their seats, realizing their names were contained within the decrypted files.
General Vance adjusted his microphone, his stern eyes sweeping across the crowded room before locking onto Vivienne.
"Captain Vance, your unauthorized field recovery operation last night violated multiple military protocols," General Vance stated formally, though a faint hint of respect colored his tone. "However, the evidence you secured has successfully dismantled a multi-decade corruption ring that reached into the highest levels of our government."
Vivienne stood at attention, offering a crisp, flawless military salute.
"I accept full responsibility for any protocol breaches, sir," Vivienne replied evenly. "My only objective was to restore the honor of the uniform and ensure justice for those who were silenced."
The general nodded slowly, returning the salute before slamming his gavel down onto the wooden block, signaling the immediate issuance of federal arrest warrants for the remaining conspirators.

As the flashbulbs of the assembled media began to pop from the back of the auditorium, Vivienne turned slowly toward the exit, knowing the battle was finally won.
