Chapter 3: The Live Broadcast**

Within four minutes, the hashtag `#TheGirlInCyan` was trending at number one across every major social platform in North America. Clips of the eight-year-old standing unflinchingly before Eleanor Vance racked up millions of views in real time.

Inside the ballroom, the atmosphere had shifted from prestigious exclusivity to suffocating confinement. Eleanor’s campaign manager, David Ross, rushed through the side curtains, his phone pressed violently against his ear.

"Cut the live feed from the media deck!" David whispered frantically to the house technical director. "Kill the Wi-Fi routers! Now!"

"It’s too late, David," Julian called out, turning to face the campaign staff. "The stream is running through a satellite uplink outside. The entire city of Oakhaven is watching. The entire country is watching."

Eleanor lunged forward, abandoning all decorum, reaching to snatch the ledger from Maya’s hands. "Give me that! That is proprietary corporate property stolen by a disgruntled former employee!"

Maya did not flinch backward; instead, she held the book higher, her big hazel eyes filled with profound moral clarity. "These aren't company secrets, Mrs. Vance. These are names. Names of three hundred and twelve children from Oakhaven Elementary who got sick from the town reservoir while your company built this ballroom."

The silence returned, heavier and darker than before. One of the catering staff—a young woman from the outskirts of the county—stopped serving trays of caviar, tears welling in her eyes as she recognized the truth of the town where she grew up.

Eleanor stopped in her tracks, realizing her aggressive posture had just been captured in ultra-high-definition from six different angles.

"Julian," Eleanor pleaded, her tone suddenly shifting into a calculated, maternal whimper. "You are destroying everything your father and I built for you. Think about your future."

Julian looked down at Maya, then back at his mother. "For the first time in my life, Mother, I am thinking about the future."
