Chapter 9: The Unexpected Ally**

At 2:00 AM, a soft knock rattled the side door of the church rectory. Julian immediately tensed, grabbing a heavy brass candlestick from the desk.
Father Dominic opened the door slowly. Standing in the darkness was a limping figure covered in dirt and dried blood, leaning heavily on a wooden walking stick.
“Marcus!” Julian gasped, dropping the candlestick and rushing forward to catch his brother.
Marcus gave a painful, bloody grin, holding up a cracked satellite drive. “Took down the second guy. Had to jump a moving freight car to lose Victor Cole’s tail, but I got the hardware.”
Julian helped his brother sit down on a wooden chair while Father Dominic brought warm water and bandages.
“You shouldn’t have come back for me,” Julian said, his eyes burning with remorse.
“We’re brothers, Jules,” Marcus replied gruffly, wincing as Julian disinfected a cut along his temple. “We lost touch because of your pride and my stubbornness. But family doesn’t let family get thrown to the wolves. Besides… I didn't come alone.”
Marcus nodded toward the shadows near the open door. A man stepped forward into the dim light of the rectory, wearing a torn chauffeur’s uniform and a sling around his left arm.
“Thomas!” Julian stared in utter shock.
“Mr. Vance,” Thomas said with a raspy voice, bowing his head slightly. “They ambushed me at the garage at dawn. Tied me up in an abandoned warehouse. Marcus found me while tracing Victor Cole’s satellite frequency.”
Thomas pulled a small micro-recorder from his pocket. “I recorded Victor Cole’s orders directly over their radio before I escaped. Mrs. Vance gave the direct verbal command to eliminate you at the expressway interchange.”
