Chapter 7: The Unseen Haven**

Drenched in murky water and covered in soot, Julian and Lily crawled through the forgotten industrial tunnel until it spilled into an overgrown drainage canal beside the freight tracks. The sun was dipping below the skyline, casting long, bloody-orange shadows over the city.
Julian fell to his knees on the gravel, gasping for air. His tailored suit was completely ruined, his hands scraped raw, but when he checked Lily, she was uninjured—only shivering from exhaustion.
“Are we going to die, Daddy?” she asked, her voice smaller than he had ever heard it.
Julian pulled her into a fierce, unwavering embrace, kissing the top of her head. “Never. I promise you, Lily. No one is going to take you away from me, and no one is going to hurt us.”
Julian knew they couldn’t stay near the tracks. He needed a place completely disconnected from his wealth, somewhere Evelyn’s private detectives would never think to search.
He led Lily into an old neighborhood near the harbor—the working-class district where Julian’s mother had grown up. Tucked between a laundromat and a bakery stood a small, weathered church: St. Jude’s.
The church doors were unlocked. Inside, the quiet sanctuary smelled of melting beeswax and aged oak. The parish priest, Father Dominic—a man who had presided over Julian’s mother’s funeral twenty years prior—emerged from the vestry with a look of quiet compassion.
“Julian,” the old priest whispered, noticing the dirt, blood, and desperate eyes of the billionaire and his child. “You look like a man carrying the weight of the entire world.”
May you like
“Father,” Julian choked out, his voice cracking for the first time. “I just need a safe corner for my daughter for five hours.”
