Chapter 2: The Severed Ties

"Get your hands off him, Elena," Julian warned, stepping forward as two burly private guards entered the hallway. "Arthur is under medical conservatorship. You have no legal standing in this estate."
Elena didn’t flinch. Slowly, she helped her father sit upright against the white marble pillar. Her eyes never left Julian’s face. In her gaze, there was no panic—only the icy composure of someone who had spent five years surviving corporate warfare in London and Singapore.
"Conservatorship?" Elena stood up, smoothing the front of her blazer. "Signed by Dr. Robert Evans, whom you transferred three million dollars to via an offshore shell company in Grand Cayman three days ago?"
Victoria’s hand froze mid-air, the wine sloshing against the rim of her crystal goblet. "You’re bluffing. You’ve been in exile, playing consultant."
"I don’t play games, Victoria," Elena replied quietly. She pulled a folded legal document from her leather crossbody bag and slapped it against Julian’s chest. "This is an emergency federal injunction. I am Arthur Sterling’s designated medical proxy, signed during his lucid assessment six months ago at Johns Hopkins."
Julian’s jaw clenched as he glanced at the federal seal on the header.
Outside, the wail of approaching sirens broke the mansion's suffocating silence. Elena had not walked into the lion's den alone; she had summoned county paramedics and state police before ever crossing the threshold.
"You think you can save him?" Victoria hissed, stepping closer, her golden dress catching the daylight. "Look at him. He can barely breathe. By sunset, I will own every share of Sterling Global."
Elena gently picked up Arthur’s fallen cane and placed it firmly back into her father’s hands.

"You inherited a monster, Victoria," Elena said, her voice resonant and unflinching. "Now meet the daughter he actually raised."
