Chapter 1: The Fall of the Patriarch

The marble foyer of the Sterling Manor had always mirrored perfection, but today it reflected pure cruelty. Arthur Sterling, once the undisputed king of American logistics, lay gasping on the cold stone. His hands, weathered by decades of honest labor before building his multi-billion-dollar empire, trembled as they reached for his fallen silver-tipped cane.
Above him stood Victoria, his second wife, radiant in a backless gold gown, swirling a glass of vintage Pinot Noir. Her smile was sharp as broken glass.
"Try to crawl, Arthur," Victoria murmured, her voice dripping with venom. "Let's see if your dignity outlasts the poison in your veins."
Beside her, Julian Cross—Arthur’s stepson—stood with his arms crossed, adjusting his bespoke cufflinks with chilling detachment. "You built this house on sweat, old man. It’s time you died on it."
Arthur’s vision blurred. The mansion’s private staff had been dismissed; the security detail belonged entirely to Julian. There was no salvation within these gilded walls.
Then, the heavy mahogany French doors swung open.
Sunlight flooded the dim vestibule, casting a long, sharp silhouette across the marble floor. The rhythmic click of white stilettos echoed through the vast hall alongside the steady glide of a rolling suitcase.
Elena Sterling had returned.
Five years ago, she was exiled across the Atlantic after refusing to let Victoria strip the company’s pension fund. Now, dressed in a sharp ivory blazer and dark denim, her gaze pierced through the room. She dropped her luggage handle.
Julian’s smirk vanished. "Security, lock down the perimeter!"
Elena ignored the command. She dropped to her knees beside her father, wrapping her arms around his shivering frame.

"I’m home, Dad," Elena whispered softly into his ear, feeling the violent tremor in his chest. "And nobody is taking another inch of what you built."
