CHAPTER 5: Simple Joys

Over the next three days, Julian put his corporate empire on pause. For the first time in his career, he didn't answer emails from investors or attend board meetings. His entire world narrowed down to a six-year-old girl with red hair and a brilliant smile.

He took Lily to the city park, watching her run across the green lawn under the afternoon sun. He bought her ice cream, laughed when she got chocolate on her nose, and taught her how to fly a red kite in the breeze.

""Julian! Look! It's flying!"" Lily shouted, her small feet kicking up grass as she held onto the string. Her laugh was pure, ringing through the park like little silver bells.

Julian stood beside her, holding the excess line. Looking at her light up with pure joy made him realize how empty his life had been before this moment. He had lived for money, status, and corporate power—things that felt utterly meaningless compared to the trust in Lily’s eyes.

""You're doing great, Lily!"" he called out, smiling warmly. ""Just don't let go!""

""I won't!"" she beamed, looking back at him. ""Mommy said good things stay if you hold on tight!""

Julian felt a lump form in his throat. He reached down and gently placed a hand on her shoulder, silently swearing to her and to Clara above that he would never let go either.
