CHAPTER 1: The Shadow of a Royal Crest

The grand ballroom of the St. Clair Estate, usually a hall of music and soft laughter, fell into a suffocating silence.
Julian Chen knelt on the polished marble floor, his heart hammering against his ribs. The glint of the tiny silver hairpin in his hand seemed to burn into his palm. It was an antique heirloom—the Royal Crown crest delicate, worn, but unmistakable. Only five such pieces had ever been crafted for the Chen lineage, a long-forgotten dynasty of art collectors and philanthropists.
""This crest..."" Julian whispered, his voice trembling as he looked down at the little girl trembling beside him. ""It belongs to my family.""
Little Lily, no older than six, clutched her tiny pink dress with bruised knuckles. Her red curls were disheveled, and fresh teardrops glistened on her pale cheeks like tiny diamonds. She looked up at Julian, her hazel eyes filled with a mixture of fear and innocent hope.
""My mommy gave it to me..."" Lily sobbed softly, holding her copy of the hairpin close to her chest. ""She said... she said it was the only thing left of who I really am. Before she went to heaven.""
Standing above them, Victoria St. Clair adjusted her pearl headband, her face distorted by rage. She smoothed her shimmering gold gown, taking a step forward on her high heels. ""What is the meaning of this drama, Julian? You're ruining the charity gala over a child who sneaked past security! Look at her—she’s a beggar’s brat who dropped cheap trinkets on my floor!""
Julian didn't look up at Victoria. Instead, his mind raced back seven years—to a rain-slicked night in Paris, to a brilliant young painter named Clara Vance whom he had loved more than life itself. Clara had vanished without a trace overnight, leaving behind only a letter begging him not to look for her to protect him from a dangerous family scandal.

Julian slowly turned his head to look at Lily’s tear-stained face. The shape of her jaw, the unique golden flecks in her hazel eyes...
""She's my sister,"" Julian gasped, the realization hitting him like a tidal wave. ""Clara didn't just run away... she was carrying my father's daughter.""
