Chapter 5 - The Uninvited Guest

All heads snapped toward the grand staircase as a tall, imposing figure emerged from the velvety shadows. The stranger stepped into the harsh illumination of the crystal chandeliers, revealing a sharp, angular face framed by slicked-back dark hair and piercing amber eyes. He wore a tailored charcoal-grey overcoat thrown loosely over his shoulders, completely unbuttoned to reveal a gold-plated Rolex watch that gleamed with expensive malice.

Eleanor visibly flinched, the last color draining completely from her cheeks as she stared at the newcomer. "You... you were supposed to stay away from this venue," she stammered, her carefully cultivated composure completely disintegrating into panic.

"Things change, Eleanor," the man replied, his voice a smooth, dangerous baritone that commanded the entire room's attention. He walked slowly toward the center of the floor, his polished leather shoes clicking rhythmically against the marble. He didn't look at Clara or Julian; his gaze was fixed entirely on Eleanor, a predatory smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Especially when amateur hour ruins a multi-million-dollar acquisition."

Julian stepped protectively in front of Clara once more, his hand dropping instinctively toward his jacket pocket where he carried his legal credentials and a heavy metal key ring. "Identify yourself," Julian demanded, his voice thick with suspicion. "And state your business in this private residence immediately."

"My name is Victor Thorne," the man said smoothly, offering a mocking half-bow. He slid his hands into the pockets of his trousers with casual arrogance. "And as for my business here, let's just say I am the silent partner who provided the financial architecture for Mrs. Vance's little family restructuring plan. Only, unlike Eleanor, I prefer my operations to be executed cleanly, without clumsy gift box avalanches."

Clara gasped, the pieces of the horrifying puzzle violently clicking together in her mind. Victor Thorne wasn't just an accomplice; he was the primary corporate raider who had been attempting to force her family's real estate firm into bankruptcy for the past eighteen months.

"You..." Clara choked out, clutching her stomach as fresh adrenaline surged through her veins. "You coordinated the hostile takeover and the attack at the same time."

May you like

Victor turned his head slowly, his amber eyes locking onto Clara with chilling indifference. He smiled, a sickeningly polite expression that didn't reach his eyes. "Business and pleasure, my dear. But don't worry—the real fireworks haven't even started yet."
