Chapter 12 - The Third Option

The heavy crystal chandelier above them flickered once, casting a momentary wave of darkness across the grand ballroom before stabilizing into a harsh, glaring white. The remaining guests had long since fled, leaving the vast space echoing with the ghosts of a shattered celebration. Clara stood tall despite the dull, lingering ache in her lower abdomen, holding Thomas Vance’s original trust documents against her chest like a shield.

"Name it," Clara said, her voice ringing with absolute authority. She looked directly at Victor, refusing to flinch under his piercing amber stare. "What is the third option?"

Victor crossed his arms over his tailored charcoal overcoat, a slow, contemplative smile spreading across his lips. He walked a slow semicircle around her, his polished shoes clicking against the marble, observing her with the calculated detachment of a chess grandmaster assessing an unexpected defensive maneuver.

"You execute your controlling interest right now," Victor explained smoothly, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "You exercise the supreme voting rights granted by your grandfather's trust, bypassing your father's receivership entirely. But instead of signing the assets over to Thorne Global Holdings... and instead of returning them to your disgraced father... you appoint an independent, neutral board of trustees to audit every single transaction from the past thirty years."

Julian gasped, pushing himself away from the table with a renewed surge of panic. "An independent audit? That means federal investigators will go through every offshore account, every property deed, every backroom deal! They'll find everything—not just my files, but half the elite families in this city! It would trigger a systemic collapse of the entire regional economy!"

"Exactly," Victor said, his smile turning razor-sharp. "A complete, uncompromising cleansing of the rot at the top. No favoritism. No hidden parachutes. Total transparency."

Clara stared at Victor, her breath catching in her throat. The proposition was staggering. It wasn't just a punishment for her father or a trophy for Victor's revenge; it was a scorched-earth policy that would burn down the entire corrupt pedestal upon which their high-society lives were built.

"And what happens to you in this scenario?" Clara asked suspiciously. "What does Thorne Global gain from a total economic collapse?"

Victor stopped pacing and met her gaze dead-on, his amber eyes suddenly devoid of malice, replaced by a deep, hollow exhaustion. "We gain justice. My father’s name cleared of fraudulent bankruptcy. And the truth, carved out in public view, where it should have been thirty years ago."

Eleanor, who had been listening quietly from her bench in the corner, suddenly let out a hysterical laugh. "You're both insane! You'll destroy us all!"
