Chapter 7: A Fragile Bond**

That night, Julian invited Clara back to the subterranean sanctuary, not for strategy, but for company. The cold hostility that once defined their interaction had melted into a deep, mutual understanding.
"Show me your progress," Clara urged gently, sitting on a leather bench near the parallel walking bars.
Julian nodded. He stood upright, walking with steady, powerful strides across the room. He reached the center, pausing as he looked down at his own legs. "For a long time, I hated being trapped. Not just in the chair, but in the hate. I thought revenge was the only reason I was still breathing."
"And now?" Clara asked softly.
Julian walked over to where she sat, stopping right before her. He knelt on one knee—not as an invalid, but as an equal, looking up into her eyes. "Now, having someone by my side who sees me... who protects me without asking for anything in return... it makes me want to live for something after the revenge is over."
Clara’s breath hitched. She reached out, her fingers gently touching his jawline. Julian leaned into her touch, closing his eyes for a brief, vulnerable moment.
"We will survive Friday," Clara promised, her heart swelling with an emotion she could no longer deny.
