Chapter 5: The Secret Sanctum**

Julian pulled a brass sconce on the wall, and the rear panel of the alcove slid open, revealing a hidden staircase descending beneath the estate. Clara followed him down into a state-of-the-art surveillance and physical therapy facility buried beneath the mansion's original cellar.

Specialized resistance machines, medical detox supplies, and server towers filled the illuminated subterranean vault.

"I don't take their medicine," Julian revealed, stepping off his motorized chair and walking effortlessly toward a glass case. "For eighteen months, Dr. Helen Morales—my mother's former confidante—has been swapping my prescribed neurotoxins with harmless saline solution while helping me rehabilitate my legs in secret."

Clara looked around in awe. "So you've been building a case against them this entire time?"

"I have bank records, forged board resolutions, and proof of kickbacks," Julian said, his expression darkening. "But Raymond keeps the definitive ledger—the one that proves he ordered the fire that killed my parents—locked in his offshore server. It only links to his private laptop during the board gala when the company systems undergo the annual audit."

Clara looked into Julian's tired, haunted eyes. Beneath his brilliant tactical mind, she saw a broken boy mourning his parents in the dark.

"Then we wait for the gala," Clara said resolutely, placing her hand over his. "And we take everything back."

Julian looked down at their connected hands, a rare warmth breaking through his icy exterior. "You don't owe me your life, Clara."

"I'm not doing this for your money, Julian," she answered softly. "I'm doing it because you deserve justice."
